LOCAL CONTEXT
Sydney is the country’s largest construction market, and the work spans inner-city apartments and commercial fit-outs, new housing in the north-west and south-west growth areas, and major infrastructure.
Western Sydney is a big part of that story. Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is due to open for passenger flights on 25 October 2026, and the federal government reports its construction has created more than 12,800 jobs, around half of them for local workers. Road upgrades and the Sydney Metro airport connection continue around it.
For subcontractors, that spread means plenty of travel. Setting your suburb and travel radius in SubbieSpace keeps the Crew Calls you see close to where you actually want to work.

Run trade package tendersBuilding and trade licensing in NSW is handled by Building Commission NSW, with applications and renewals lodged through Service NSW. An endorsed contractor licence lets you contract for and supervise the described work, while a qualified supervisor certificate lets you do and supervise the work but not contract for it.
For residential building work worth $20,000 or more, home building compensation insurance is required. Licensed trades covered by these rules include carpenters, bricklayers, painters, dry plasterers, general concreters, glaziers and more, while electrical, plumbing and gasfitting work have their own licence classes.
Most construction sites also expect your general construction induction (White Card) and any high risk work licences your role needs. Keep them all in your Work Passport so companies can check them before they hire.
