THE WORK

Subcontract concreting work

Concrete work is tied to the program: footings and slabs early, then paths, driveways and finishes later. A pour waits for nobody, so builders and concreting businesses need reliable people who turn up on the day with the right gear.

Concreting crews are often put together per job, which suits subcontractors who are happy to move between companies. A clear Work Passport showing the pours and finishes you have done helps you get picked for the next one.

  • Footings and slabs
  • Formwork and steel fixing
  • Driveways, paths and patios
  • Exposed aggregate and decorative finishes
  • Commercial pours and pump work
  • Concrete repairs and grinding

Concreting licensing in NSW and Queensland

NSW. General concreting is a licensed home building trade in NSW. In NSW you need a contractor licence for residential building or trade work valued at more than $5,000 in labour and materials, including GST. Check the licence category for your work with Building Commission NSW before you quote.

Queensland. The QBCC has a Concreting trade contractor licence class. In Queensland the QBCC generally requires a licence for building work valued over $3,300. If you subcontract to a licensed builder you need a contractor licence of the right class for your work. If you subcontract to a licensed trade contractor you may not need your own contractor licence, though occupational licences still apply.

Licensing rules change and depend on the work. Always confirm with the regulator in your state.
