Find subcontract carpentry work, or find carpenters for framing, fit-out and finishing. SubbieSpace connects carpenters with the trade companies and builders who need them.
Carpentry is one of the most subcontracted trades on Australian sites. Builders and trade companies bring in carpenters for structural framing and roofing, then again for lock-up, second fix and finishing work, so a carpenter can follow a project through several stages.
Subcontract carpentry ranges from a single carpenter for a few days of fit-out to framing crews booked for a run of houses. Companies care about speed, accuracy and whether you turn up with the right tools, so they look for clear experience on similar work.

NSW. NSW licenses carpentry as a home building trade. In NSW you need a contractor licence for residential building or trade work valued at more than $5,000 in labour and materials, including GST. Check the licence category for your work with Building Commission NSW before you quote.
Queensland. The QBCC has a Carpentry trade contractor licence class. In Queensland the QBCC generally requires a licence for building work valued over $3,300. If you subcontract to a licensed builder you need a contractor licence of the right class for your work. If you subcontract to a licensed trade contractor you may not need your own contractor licence, though occupational licences still apply.
Licensing rules change and depend on the work. Always confirm with the regulator in your state.
Create a free subbie account, list carpentry as your trade in your Work Passport with the stages you specialise in, add your tickets and set your travel radius. Then search for Crew Calls near you and apply to the trade companies that need carpenters.
Do subcontract carpenters need a licence?
Often, yes. In NSW a contractor licence is needed for residential building work over $5,000 including labour and materials, and carpentry is a licensed trade. In Queensland the QBCC has a Carpentry licence class and generally requires a licence for work over $3,300. Check with the regulator for your situation.
How do companies find carpenters for a job?
Post a Crew Call that names carpentry as the trade, describes the stage of work, and gives the site location and start dates. Carpenters apply with their Work Passport, and you shortlist, message and hire from one list.
Can I hire a whole carpentry crew?
Yes. A Crew Call can ask for more than one person, and carpenters who work with an offsider can say so in their Work Passport. Save the carpenters you rate so you can invite them back next time.
