THE WORK

Subcontract plastering work

Plasterboard work is commonly split between hangers and setters, and plastering businesses build crews from subcontractors for each stage. Commercial jobs add ceilings, partitions and fire-rated systems.

Being specific about whether you hang, set or do both, and whether you do solid plaster or rendering, puts you in front of the right Crew Calls.

  • Sheeting and hanging
  • Setting and finishing
  • Cornice and ceilings
  • Commercial partitions and suspended ceilings
  • Solid plaster and render
  • Patching and repairs

Plastering licensing in NSW and Queensland

NSW. Dry plastering is a licensed home building trade in NSW. In NSW you need a contractor licence for residential building or trade work valued at more than $5,000 in labour and materials, including GST. Check the licence category for your work with Building Commission NSW before you quote.

Queensland. The QBCC has separate Plastering drywall and Plastering solid trade contractor licence classes. In Queensland the QBCC generally requires a licence for building work valued over $3,300. If you subcontract to a licensed builder you need a contractor licence of the right class for your work. If you subcontract to a licensed trade contractor you may not need your own contractor licence, though occupational licences still apply.

Licensing rules change and depend on the work. Always confirm with the regulator in your state.
